March 3-7

This week, the kindergarteners had a fantastic time celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday! We loved learning about Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, who was both an author and an illustrator. Did you know he wrote and illustrated 44 amazing books?

One fun thing we noticed right away is that Dr. Seuss’ stories always rhyme! Every time we read one of his delightful books, we searched for all the different rhyming words. We spent a lot of time practicing our rhyming skills this week and even created our very own rhyming book! In addition to rhyming, we focused on identifying two kinds of sentences: asking questions and making telling statements. Each of us wrote a special letter to the Cat in the Hat, sharing fun facts about ourselves and asking him some questions. To add to the excitement, we followed directions to create our own picture of the Cat in the Hat! The highlight of our week was making a delicious Cat in the Hat snack. We used a marshmallow with a cat face on a stick and added slices of banana and strawberries to make his iconic hat. What a fun week it has been!
